Katarina started skating ice at the age of five. When her talent for skating became more apparent her admission was granted at the Karl-Marx-Stadt school, which focuses on kids with a sporty talent. Her coach Jutta was also there. Her breakthrough year was in 1982, when she placed 2nd at the World Championships in Copenhagen. The grace and elegant style of Witt caught the eye of everyone and she has been a dominant figure skater ever since.
